US President Donald Trump said the United States will refer to artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence” in government documents, making the announcement during his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 22.

Trump said the word “artificial” makes intelligence sound fake and announced that US documents would use “Super Intelligence” instead.

“From this point forward, all of United States documents, and hopefully the world's, will be changed to use the much more accurate term Super as opposed to Artificial,” Trump said. He then introduced “SI” as the abbreviation for Super Intelligence.

Trump said the United States also rejects efforts to establish a global system to control AI. He said the technology needs to be handled carefully but argued that its development should not be restricted.

“I’m not going to stifle growth of something that will be bigger than the Industrial Revolution,” Trump said.

He added that the US would encourage the development of Super Intelligence while monitoring the technology through the Department of Justice and other law-enforcement agencies.

“We will only encourage superintelligence. We’re going to encourage it, not rein it in,” Trump said.

Trump also linked AI leadership to global technological competition, saying the United States was ahead of China and other countries.
