Ola Electric founder and Chairman Bhavish Aggarwal has pledged a 4.32% stake in the electric vehicle maker to fund his participation in the company's proposed ₹1,000-crore rights issue,
according to the company.
Ola Electric said the pledge has been created specifically to support Aggarwal's participation in the rights issue and does not involve any sale of shares.
The development comes as Ola Electric seeks to raise fresh capital through the rights issue amid its efforts to strengthen operations and expand its electric vehicle business.
Aggarwal remains the company's key promoter and has continued to maintain a significant holding in Ola Electric. The pledged shares will serve as security for the financing associated with his participation in the proposed fundraising.
A rights issue allows an existing company to raise capital by offering additional shares to its existing shareholders, generally in proportion to their existing holdings.
Ola Electric's proposed ₹1,000-crore fundraising comes as the company continues to focus on scaling its EV portfolio, manufacturing operations and broader electric mobility ecosystem.
The company clarified that the pledge should not be interpreted as a promoter stake sale. No shares are being sold as part of the transaction, and the pledge is linked to the proposed rights issue.
The move comes at a time when India's electric two-wheeler market remains highly competitive, with manufacturers competing on pricing, product range, technology, manufacturing scale and charging infrastructure.
The additional capital from the rights issue is expected to support Ola Electric's business plans as the company continues to expand its presence in India's rapidly developing electric mobility market.
The proposed fundraising will now be closely watched by investors as Ola Electric works to strengthen its financial position and scale its operations in the competitive EV market.
