Apple is expected to expand its smart home portfolio with a product announcement scheduled for October 13 under the tagline “Welcome
home”. A new smart home hub, an updated HomePod mini and a refreshed Apple TV are among the products anticipated, although Apple has not
officially confirmed the lineup.
The launch comes as Apple looks to strengthen integration across its hardware, software and artificial intelligence ecosystem. The expected devices could give users more ways to manage connected home appliances and access Apple services from a central interface.
The most anticipated product is a smart home hub reportedly featuring a six-inch square display. It could allow users to control compatible smart home devices, check calendars and weather updates, make FaceTime calls and access other services. The device may be available in wall- mounted and tabletop versions.
Reports also suggest that the hub could support enhanced Siri capabilities, alongside a camera and presence-sensing technology to provide personalised information. These features have not been confirmed by Apple.
Apple may also unveil an updated HomePod mini, originally launched in 2020. The refreshed speaker is expected to feature a faster processor, improved wireless connectivity and additional colour options. A new Apple TV 4K with upgraded hardware and support for newer Siri features is also among the anticipated announcements.
Separately, reports have linked Apple to a broader range of smart home accessories, potentially developed with LG Electronics. These could include a video doorbell, security cameras, a smart lock and a thermostat. It remains unclear whether any of these products will be announced on October 13.
The expected expansion would put Apple in closer competition with Amazon and Google in the connected home market. Both companies offer smart displays, speakers and home automation products. Apple’s potential advantage lies in integrating home controls with its existing devices and services.
The announcement is scheduled for 9 a.m. Eastern Time on October 13,equivalent to 6:30 p.m. IST. Apple has not confirmed whether it will hold a live presentation or announce the products through online releases.
