Amazon is restructuring its Alexa leadership following the launch of a new premium tablet lineup featuring its generative AI-powered voice assistant, Alexa+.
Daniel Rausch, Amazon’s vice president overseeing Alexa and Echo, will step away from the division next month after leading the teams for more than three years. The 17-year company
veteran is expected to return to another role within Amazon’s devices and services division in 2027, the company said in response to a Reuters inquiry.
Aidan Marcuss, who currently oversees Fire TV, advertising and the Amazon Appstore, will take over leadership of Alexa. Marcuss joined Amazon from Microsoft in early 2025. Meanwhile,
Kevin Keith, a product and marketing vice president, will temporarily assume Marcuss existing responsibilities.
The leadership changes come as Amazon intensifies efforts to strengthen Alexa through generative artificial intelligence and expand its presence in the consumer technology market. The company recently unveiled its first premium tablets under the Alexa brand, moving beyond
its traditional focus on affordable Fire tablets. The new devices feature Alexa+, an upgraded voice assistant designed to handle more complex requests and longer conversations using generative AI.
Amazon has spent several years developing the upgraded assistant as it seeks to make Alexa more useful across connected homes, shopping and third-party services. However, the voice assistant has remained a costly investment since its introduction in 2014.
Alexa+ is included with Amazon’s Prime membership, priced at $139 annually in the United States, or available as a standalone subscription for $20 per month.
The tablet launch and leadership restructuring highlight Amazon’s efforts to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive AI assistant market. The company faces competition from technology firms integrating generative AI into smartphones, computers, smart-home devices and other consumer products.
The leadership transition comes at a critical stage for Amazon as it seeks to turn its investments in Alexa into a more commercially viable business while expanding its premium hardware portfolio.
The impact of the changes will depend on how effectively Amazon can improve Alexa’s capabilities, attract users to its new devices and generate sustainable returns from its AI investments.
