Anthropic has made in-country inference for its Claude AI models available in India through Amazon Bedrock, allowing eligible customer requests to be
processed within the country.
The move is aimed at organisations that must meet data-residency and regulatory requirements, including businesses in financial services, government and other sectors handling sensitive information.
According to AWS, Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Haiku 4.5 are available through Amazon Bedrock’s India geographic inference profile. Requests using this profile are processed across AWS regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
Anthropic India Managing Director Irina Ghose said customers in regulated industries and government had requested the capability for workloads that require processing within India.
Anthropic announced plans for in-country Claude inference in India in August. Its availability through Amazon Bedrock now makes the capability accessible to eligible AWS customers.
The development comes as Indian enterprises expand their use of generative AI for software development and other business applications. Keeping inference within India could help organisations address data- residency requirements for certain AI workloads.
AWS said the India geographic inference profile allows workloads to use capacity across supported Indian regions while keeping inference within the country. Amazon Bedrock also provides controls for managing enterprise AI deployments.
The availability of in-country Claude inference gives Indian enterprises another option for deploying generative AI in workloads subject to local data-processing requirements, adding to competition among global AI providers in the enterprise market.
