Gemini plans change from October 9

Google is revising access to its Gemini artificial intelligence models from October 9, changing which models are available across its free and paid AI plans.

Under the revised structure, free users will have access to Gemini Flash- Lite. Google AI Plus subscribers will retain access to Flash-Lite and Flash but will no longer have access to Gemini Pro.

Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers will continue to have access to Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro, along with additional advanced capabilities available under their respective plans.

Google is also introducing different effort levels for Gemini models, allowing users to control how much reasoning the models apply to a response.

Higher effort settings are designed for more complex tasks, while lower settings can be used for simpler requests.

The changes will affect both model availability and usage limits, making access to Gemini's more advanced capabilities increasingly dependent on the user's subscription tier.

The revised structure will differentiate access to Gemini model according to subscription level, which paid plans retain access to a wide range of models and features.

The company is not discontinuing Gemini for free users. Instead, Google is restructuring model access and usage limits as it expands Gemini across its consumer and productivity services.
