Google launches Googlebook laptops with Gemini AI_ pre-orders start at $899
Google has launched Googlebook, a new laptop range that brings its Gemini artificial intelligence tools and Android integration to personal computers. Pre-orders for the devices opened on September 21, with prices starting at $899. The first Googlebook models are being developed in partnership with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo and will use Intel or Qualcomm processors.

The laptops are scheduled to go on sale from October 4 in the US, followed by launches in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia on October 5. Google has not announced an India launch date.

Googlebook is positioned by the company as a laptop platform that combines elements of its Android ecosystem with desktop computing technology based on ChromeOS. The company says the devices will allow users to move more easily between Android phones and computers, including accessing files and continuing tasks across devices.

Several Gemini-powered features are being integrated into the laptops. One of them, Magic Pointer, allows users to access Gemini assistance by moving the cursor over content on the screen. Another tool, Rambler, is designed to convert spoken, unstructured thoughts into organised text.

The initial Googlebook lineup will include models powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Snapdragon X Elite processors. Google says the devices will have at least 16GB of RAM and support on-device AI functions. Battery performance will vary by model, with Google claiming up to 14 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing.

Google is also bundling 12 months of Google AI Pro with each purchase. The subscriptionincludes 5TB of cloud storage and access to additional Gemini features. Buyers will also receive three months of services including YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop.

With Googlebook, the company is expanding its computer hardware strategy beyond its traditional Chromebook lineup, while placing greater emphasis on AI and integration with Android devices. The company has yet to provide details on pricing or availability for the Indian market.
