Canon has announced the EOS R8 Mark II, a new full-frame mirrorless camera and successor to the EOS R8.

The camera features a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and Canon's DIGIC X processor. The major addition is a five-axis in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) system, which Canon says provides up to 7.5 stops of correction at the centre and 7 stops at the edges with compatible RF lenses.

The EOS R8 Mark II can shoot at up to 40 frames per second using its electronic shutter. It also includes a pre-continuous shooting mode that can capture images before the shutter button is fully pressed.

For autofocus, the camera uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, with subject detection for people, animals and vehicles. Canon has also added a feature that allows photographers to prioritise registered people when multiple subjects are detected.

The camera supports 4K video recording at up to 60fps, using 6K oversampling, and Full HD recording at up to 180fps. It also comes with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and a multi-controller joystick.

The camera weighs approximately 546 grams. Canon says it is expected to go on sale in the US in late October 2026, with an estimated price of $1,899 for the body and $2,099 with the RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens. In Japan, the EOS R8 Mark II is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026.
