Daffodil Software has developed a multilingual AI assistant for the Unique Identification
Authority of India’s (UIDAI) mascot, Udai, to make Aadhaar-related information easier for
citizens to access.
Announced on October 21, the assistant is designed to answer common Aadhaar-related questions in 11 languages, including Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Odia.
The solution was demonstrated at Aadhaar Samvaad 2026 in Kolkata on September 29. It aims to help users understand Aadhaar services through a conversational interface rather than having to navigate lengthy documents or help pages.
The assistant can address queries related to Aadhaar enrolment, address updates, demographic changes, service fees, required documents, eKYC and Virtual ID. It also covers questions about linking Aadhaar with bank accounts, PAN and mobile numbers.
According to Daffodil Software, the system uses official UIDAI information, frequently asked questions and relevant policy documents to generate responses. The mascot combines voice- based interaction with synchronised lip movements and gestures to create a more engaging user experience.
The company has outlined a two-phase rollout plan. The first phase is expected to introduce the assistant at Aadhaar centres, helping visitors understand procedures and documentation requirements. The second phase plans to integrate the assistant into the Aadhaar website and mobile application.
The company has not announced a confirmed public launch date for the proposed rollout. The initiative reflects growing efforts to use conversational AI to improve access to public services in India. Its effectiveness will depend on the accuracy of responses, language support and ease of use for citizens with different levels of digital literacy.
