The Technology Development Board (TDB) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) have signed an agreement with BigEndian
Semiconductors for ₹130 crore in research, development and innovation (RDI) support to develop an indigenous artificial intelligence vision System-
on-Chip (SoC).
The project, named VeerAI, aims to advance secure, application-specific semiconductor technology for AI and computer-vision workloads in India.
The programme will take the technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5 to TRL-9 through development, testing, validation and deployment.
Under the agreement, the RDI support will help advance Project VeerAI towards deployment readiness. TRL-9 represents the final stage of the technology-readiness scale, at which a technology has been demonstrated in an operational environment.
The project is also expected to strengthen domestic capabilities in semiconductor design, AI hardware and application-specific chip development.
The agreement comes as India continues to expand its domestic semiconductor ecosystem and build capabilities in advanced chip design and AI hardware.
