Bhubaneswar, September 19, 2026: Odisha is stepping up its semiconductor ambitions with
plans for an 870-acre technology hub at Naraj near Cuttack, alongside investment proposals
worth around ₹23,600 crore received during SEMICON India 2026.
The proposed Odisha Silicon Valley will bring together semiconductor, electronics and IT projects, creating a larger technology manufacturing ecosystem in the state. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the initiative during the semiconductor industry event in New Delhi on September 18.
The Naraj site, located along the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar corridor, is being positioned for semiconductor manufacturing, electronics and supporting industries. Its connectivity to major highways and ports such as Paradip and Dhamra could also support logistics and supply-chain operations.
The Odisha government said discussions with semiconductor companies, technology firms and international delegations resulted in investment proposals of approximately ₹23,600 crore, with the potential to create around 6,100 jobs. The figures represent proposals and potential employment, rather than completed investments or confirmed jobs.
Companies engaged during the event included Lam Research, Applied Materials, SiCSem, 3D Glass Solutions, Cyient, Linde and HORIBA India, along with delegations from Japan, Sweden and Taiwan.
Another key development was an LoI with QuadQuantum for a facility to manufacture silicon carbide (SiC) substrate wafers. SiC is increasingly used in electric vehicles, power electronics and renewable-energy systems because of its ability to operate under high-temperature and high-voltage conditions.
The development follows the Centre’s approval of a separate ₹3,406-crore SiCSem project in Odisha. The facility at IDCO Infovalley-II in Khordha will manufacture SiC devices, including diodes and MOSFETs, and is expected to create 1,270 jobs.
Odisha is also seeking companies across semiconductor equipment, advanced packaging, materials, gases, chip design, and supply-chain services.
The proposed Naraj hub reflects Odisha’s broader effort to build a semiconductor ecosystem covering manufacturing, research, skilled talent and supporting industries.
