Indian artificial intelligence company Sarvam AI has appointed former Google Cloud India Managing Director Sashikumar Sreedharan as its President and Chief Business Officer,
according to reports.
Sreedharan joins Sarvam AI as the company expands its focus on sovereign AI infrastructure, enterprise solutions and AI models built for the Indian market. The appointment is also expected to strengthen the company’s business and enterprise operations.
Sreedharan has more than two decades of experience across enterprise technology, cloud computing and digital businesses. He served as Managing Director of Google Cloud India before stepping down from the role. He joined Google Cloud in 2023 as Chief Operating Officer for Asia Pacific and later took charge of the company’s India business.
Before Google Cloud, Sreedharan held senior leadership positions at Microsoft India and other technology companies. His experience includes working with enterprise customers and public- sector organisations on cloud and digital transformation initiatives.
His appointment comes as Sarvam AI scales its technology platform and develops AI models focused on Indian languages and use cases. The company is also targeting enterprises and government organisations with AI infrastructure designed around India's data, language and technology requirements.
Sarvam AI recently raised $234 million in the first close of its Series B funding round, giving the company a post-money valuation of about $1.5 billion. HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners participated in the round along with existing investors.
The company has been expanding its research and leadership capabilities as it develops its AI technology stack. It recently brought AI researcher Devendra Chaplot on board as an adviser. Sreedharan’s move from a major global cloud provider to an Indian AI company comes as competition intensifies among domestic firms seeking to build large-scale AI models, infrastructure and enterprise applications.
At Sarvam AI, his focus as President and Chief Business Officer is expected to include strengthening enterprise adoption and expanding the company's commercial presence as it builds AI solutions for Indian businesses and public-sector institutions.
