Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was named Game of the Year at the 26th annual Game Developers Choice Awards, held on March 12, 2026 at the GDC Festival of Gaming in San Francisco’s Moscone Center. The dark fantasy role-playing game — which launched on April 24, 2025 — won five awards on the night: Game of the Year, Best Debut, Best Visual Art, Best Narrative, and Best Audio. The Game Developers Choice Awards are peer-recognised: both nominees and winners are decided by a jury of video game developers, making it the most industry-credible accolade in gaming. Clair Obscur’s five-award haul at the GDCAs sets a new record for the most wins in a single year at the ceremony, surpassing the previous benchmarks set by Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Last of Us Part II. The victory adds to one of the most extraordinary awards runs in the history of the medium: the game had already won nine awards at The Game Awards 2025 — including its Game of the Year — plus seven Golden Joystick Awards and five D.I.C.E. Awards, making it the most decorated game in gaming history according to available records. The game was conceived by Guillaume Broche, a former Ubisoft employee who founded Sandfall Interactive during the 2020 pandemic and developed the title over five years in Paris and Montpellier. It has now sold more than 5 million copies and maintains a 95% positive rating with over 100,000 reviews on Steam, a rating described as ‘Overwhelmingly Positive.’ Blue Prince by Dogubomb and Raw Fury won Best Design and the Innovation Award. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach by Kojima Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment won Best Technology. Consume Me by Jenny Jiao Hsia won the Social Impact Award. Don Daglow received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
