Ride-hailing platform Namma Yatri has launched into the retail sector with the introduction of Namma Santhe, a new shopping platform that is intended to help its drivers purchase everyday items at lower prices.
Namma Santhe, which is being launched in association with Keystones, can be obtained from a physical store located at the Namma Yatri office in Bengaluru and also through an online shop that sends the products directly to drivers’ homes all over the city.
The platform currently offers products across several categories, including mobile phones and accessories, three-wheelers, automotive products, rain covers, safety equipment, electronics, household essentials, personal care items, bags and work accessories.
Namma Yatri says the initiative is focused on an often-overlooked part of a driver’s livelihood and daily expenses.
While discussions around drivers usually focus on how much they earn, regular spending on items such as vehicle accessories, rain protection, household products and other essentials can also affect their take-home income.
Through Namma Santhe, drivers can access products sourced from manufacturers, authorised distributors and verified suppliers. Products are checked for authenticity, quality and warranty support before being listed.
Namma Yatri says it will take no margin on sales through the platform. Purchases are completely optional and have no connection to a driver’s earnings, ride allocation or subscription status.
Prices are compared with those available in shops and online before suppliers negotiate for bulk or institutional rates. The company says it passes the savings on to drivers wherever possible.
“We wanted to look beyond what drivers earn and focus on what they spend. Namma Santhe gives them access to everyday products at better prices, while ensuring that we do not take a margin from their purchases,” said Rajiv Ravindran, Head of Namma Yatri Karnataka.
The platform is available to Namma Yatri’s 7.71 lakh enabled drivers. The physical store in Koramangala is open from 11 am to 7 pm, while orders can also be placed through the Namma Yatri app.
The company plans to expand product categories and eventually extend the benefits to drivers’ families.
