Nintendo Co. Ltd. and The Pokémon Company jointly announced on March 12, 2026 that Pokémon Pokopia — the new life simulation game for the Nintendo Switch 2 — had sold more than 2.2 million units worldwide in its first four days following its global launch on March 5, 2026. The 2.2 million figure includes more than 1 million units sold in Japan alone in the same period. Pokémon Pokopia is the first Pokémon title to be designed as a slow-paced life simulation game — a departure from the franchise’s traditional battle-focused formula. Players take control of a Ditto that has transformed to appear human, gradually rebuilding a desolate world into a thriving community by attracting Pokémon friends, crafting items, collecting materials, and designing habitats. The game was conceived by Shigeru Ohmori — director of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet — and co-developed by Game Freak and Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force division, which brought its experience from sandbox titles including Dragon Quest Builders 2. The game is published by Nintendo outside Japan and by The Pokémon Company within Japan. Pokémon Pokopia is priced at $69 and requires at least 10GB of internal storage. It supports local wireless and online multiplayer for up to four players, and includes a Cloud Island mode allowing friends to continue building a shared town even when the original host is offline. Critics have described it as the highest-reviewed Pokémon game since Pokémon Legends: Arceus in 2022, with the game being the first Pokémon title to achieve a 90 Metacritic score, though the average fluctuated as more reviews were added at launch.
