Medical technology company Stryker has launched its fourth-generation Mako 4 SmartRobotics™ system in India, bringing its latest robotic-assisted technology to knee and hip replacement procedures.
The system uses three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) scans to support preoperative planning and incorporates AccuStop™ haptic technology to provide robotic guidance during
surgery. The platform is designed to help surgeons plan procedures according to a patient’s individual anatomy and execute the surgical plan with greater control.
Mako 4 supports total knee replacement, partial knee replacement and total hip replacement procedures. Its combination of CT-based planning, specialised software and robotic assistance
is intended to support surgeons throughout the joint replacement process.
The technology provides guidance during surgery, while surgeons retain responsibility for clinical decisions and performing the procedure. As with other surgical technologies, patient outcomes depend on individual medical conditions, the procedure and the clinical team’s assessment.
The launch adds to the growing use of advanced medical technologies in orthopaedic care.
Robotic-assisted surgical platforms are attracting interest from hospitals and specialists seeking technology to support complex joint replacement procedures.
Stryker’s Mako platform is part of its broader orthopaedic technology portfolio. The introduction of Mako 4 in India expands the company’s latest-generation robotic-assisted surgery offering in the country’s medical technology market.
