Flipkart is creating more than 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities across India ahead of the festive shopping season, as the e-commerce company expands its supply chain and last-mile delivery network to handle rising demand, the company said on Tuesday.

According to Flipkart, nearly 75,000 of these opportunities are for people entering the workforce for the first time, accounting for around 30% of the total. The opportunities, which include gig- worker roles, are spread across more than 7,000 Ekart facilities, including fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery operations. Last-mile delivery is driving a significant part of Flipkart's festive expansion. The company said it is adding more than 900 festive delivery hubs and nearly 1.4 lakh additional last-mile employment opportunities.

Around 60% of the new opportunities are linked to last mile operations, with Flipkart citing the expansion of its quick commerce service, Flipkart Minutes, and growing demand from Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets as key factors behind the expansion.

The additional delivery infrastructure is being built ahead of the company's Big Billion Days festive shopping period, when e-commerce platforms typically prepare for increased order volumes.

Flipkart said its supply-chain expansion is also increasing participation among women and persons with disabilities. Women now account for more than 20% of the company's supply-chain workforce, while participation by persons with disabilities has increased across warehouse and delivery operations, according to the company.

The company is also using its Supply Chain Operations Academy (SCOA) to train workers for logistics and supply-chain roles. Nearly 10,000 people have received certifications through the programme ahead of the festive season. SCOA operates in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, NCVET and ITI Kalyani, Flipkart said.

The hiring push comes as India's e-commerce sector prepares for increased online shopping during the festive period. For companies such as Flipkart, meeting this demand requires expansion across fulfilment, sorting and delivery operations.

The company's latest expansion also reflects the growing role of quick commerce and the increasing contribution of smaller cities and towns to India's digital shopping market.

Flipkart said its marketplace ecosystem also supports millions of sellers, merchants and small businesses by connecting them with consumers across the country. Flipkart said this creates opportunities beyond its direct workforce and contributes to the broader digital-commerce ecosystem.

The festive-season expansion therefore extends beyond temporary hiring. The addition of delivery hubs, supply-chain workers and trained personnel is also strengthening the infrastructure required to support India's growing online-commerce market.

With festive demand expected to put additional pressure on logistics networks, Flipkart's expansion highlights how e-commerce companies are scaling both technology-enabled commerce and physical delivery infrastructure to serve customers across India's major cities as well as emerging markets.
