Since January 2026, 70 private companies globally have attained unicorn status — a $1 billion-plus valuation. Artificial intelligence companies account for 17 of those 70, making AI the single most productive sector for unicorn creation in the first four months of the year. The four highest-valued new AI unicorns are Humans& at $4.5 billion, Ricursive Intelligence at $4.0 billion, Advanced Machine Intelligence at $3.5 billion, and Waabi at $3.0 billion.
Robotics produced seven new unicorns in 2026, with four of those crossing the billion-dollar mark in March alone. Cloud computing and cybersecurity each contributed five new entrants, with startups such as Oxide ($1.6 billion), Render ($1.5 billion), and Cast AI ($1.0 billion) building the compute infrastructure that AI models depend on — and cybersecurity firms including Upwind Security ($1.5 billion) and Torq ($1.2 billion) delivering AI-native threat response platforms.
There are now 1,727 unicorns worldwide as of April 2026. The United States retains the commanding lead with 886 companies, followed by China with 288, India with 127, and the United Kingdom with 72.
