Sportswear company Adidas has reduced jobs in its technology organisation in India as part of
a restructuring to simplify operations and align its workforce with changing business
requirements.
Adidas confirmed the reduction in technology roles but did not disclose the exact number of employees affected. The company said the cuts involve less than 20% of its India Technology organisation, according to Reuters.
Adidas has technology operations in Gurugram and Chennai, with nearly 650 employees across the two hubs. However, Adidas has not provided an official figure.
Separate reports indicate that the impact at the Gurugram technology hub could be significantly higher, with more than 350 employees reportedly affected. The reported roles include software engineers, data scientists and data engineers. The figure would represent a substantial portion of the workforce at the Gurugram facility.
Some employees have reportedly received exit letters, while others have been asked to continue during a transition period to complete handovers and explore possible internal opportunities.
The differing figures have not been fully explained by Adidas. The company’s public statement confirms a reduction in technology roles but does not provide a location-wise or role-wise breakdown of the affected workforce.
Adidas said the restructuring is intended to simplify parts of its organisation, strengthen critical capabilities and support its long-term growth. The company also said India remains strategically important to its operations. The workforce reduction comes as companies across industries continue to reassess technology teams and organisational structures amid changes in artificial intelligence, automation and digital technologies.
