Microsoft has scheduled a Windows and Surface event for October 7 in San Francisco, with the
company set to focus on the role of local artificial intelligence in the next phase of personal
computing.
The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Microsoft said the discussion will cover developments across Windows, Surface, NVIDIA RTX Spark and the broader PC ecosystem. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Windows and Devices chief Pavan Davuluri, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang are scheduled to participate in the event. Huang's appearance puts additional attention on NVIDIA's RTX Spark platform and its role in PCs designed to handle AI workloads locally.
Microsoft is positioning the event around local AI, which refers to running AI workloads directly on a computer rather than sending all processing to cloud-based systems. The shift is becoming an important area of development in the PC industry as chipmakers and computer manufacturers work on hardware capable of handling larger AI workloads on the device.
Microsoft has not yet disclosed a complete list of products or features that will be announced at the event. Microsoft previously announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, which is built around NVIDIA's RTX Spark platform. However, the company has not yet announced pricing or a specific release date for the device.
Several reports have suggested that the October event could provide more information about the Surface Laptop Ultra and other RTX Spark-based PCs. Those announcements, however, have not been confirmed by Microsoft.
The event also comes more than two years after Microsoft's previous major Windows-focused presentation in May 2024, when the company introduced its Copilot+ PC initiative and highlighted Windows PCs built around Arm-based processors. Microsoft has not announced a Windows 12 launch for the October event. The company has instead framed the event around Windows, Surface, local AI and the wider PC ecosystem.
