Chrome turns gmail into a smarter autofill tool

Google is expanding Chrome’s Autofill capabilities to suggest information from users’ Gmail inboxes when they complete online forms. The feature can retrieve details such as flight booking references, order numbers and shipment tracking information, reducing the need to search emails and enter details manually.

Announced on October 28, 2026, the update uses Gemini with Personal Intelligence to identify relevant information in Gmail and display it through Chrome’s enhanced Autofill suggestions. It builds on the browser’s existing ability to fill in details such as names, addresses and payment information.

The feature is designed to simplify everyday online tasks. For example, users may be able to retrieve a flight booking reference or a parcel tracking number directly from Chrome’s Autofill menu instead of opening Gmail and searching for the original message.

According to Google, the feature is beginning to roll out in the United States across desktop computers, Android and iOS devices. It is available to eligible users aged 18 and above who use Gemini in Chrome and have Personal Intelligence enabled. Google has not announced a rollout date for India.

Privacy and user control remain important considerations because the feature accesses information from personal emails. Google says users can manage the enhanced Autofill feature and its access through Chrome settings. Users can also disable the feature or remove individual suggestions they no longer wish to see.

Chrome also allows users to check the source of a suggestion by opening the corresponding email in Gmail. This helps them verify details before using information retrieved from their inbox.

The update reflects Google’s broader efforts to integrate Gemini-powered assistance into everyday browsing. By bringing relevant information from Gmail into online forms, the company aims to simplify tasks involving travel bookings, online purchases and delivery tracking.

However, not every form may support the feature, and suggested information may not always be accurate or up to date. Users should verify important details before submitting forms, particularly for travel bookings and deliveries.
